Unknown Nazareth and Sepphoris

Nazareth is a world-renowned city, the town of the boyhood of Christ. But it is also a living, vibrant city, the largest Arab city in Israel, and the cultural capital of the Palestinians in Israel. We’ll visit the iconic Basilica of the Annunciation, followed by Nazareth’s lesser-known sights: the Moscowia building, the political street art, carefully renovated 300-year-old carpentry-turned-boutique hotel, and the gutted-out old market. We’ll taste the local delicacies experience street life.
From there, we will drive to the neighboring village of Tzippori. Well-known for the rich Roman antiquities, the rich mosaics and water reservoir, it’s Palestinian history  remains hidden from view. We will see what’s left of the village, and end with a surprising visit to a functioning medieval monastery and orphanage.

Northern Hidden Gems

We’ll start the day in Haifa’s splendid Bahá'í Gardens, looking out over the Bay of Haifa. Making our way down to the Templar Colony, we’ll continue to the modern minority Palestinian neighborhood of Wadi Nisnas, to learn of the city’s rich and complex history of inter-ethnic relations, particularly the effect the 1948 Israel-Arab War had on the different puzzle-pieces that make up this cosmopolitan port city.
We’ll follow the coastline to the marvelous ancient port town of Acre, the best preserved Crusader city in the world. Making our way underground, we’ll discover what drove devout Christians to walk across the known world and conquer the Holy Land. Emerging back in the 18th-century street, we’ll be greeted by the hustle & bustle of the eclectic Mediterranean market.
We’ll end our day with the jaw-dropping natural grottoes of Rosh Hanikra, carved out over eaons by the sea through Israel’s northern mountain range, enjoy the sunset, and make our way home.

Upper Galilee: Jewish Mystics and Forgotten Cities in the Forest

Tired of the beaten track? Tourist crowds getting you down? It’s time to head for the wild hills of the Upper Galilee, and discover an entirely different side of the country.
We’ll start with a hidden city of Sunam: a Byzantine-era town in the hills, lost in the woods and unvisited even today. We’ll continue to the Crusader fortress of Monfort, the most remote of them all, well-preserved and towering over the deep canyon of Kziv. Going through a special ice-cream factory, we’ll see the ancient synagogue at Bir’am, and end our day in the enchanting alleyways of Safed. This ancient city is at the heart of the story of Jewish mysticism, and it’s synagogues, workshops, and people tell a unique story, high on the mountaintop.
